Ilocos Sur: Past. Present. Future

Calle Crisologo, Mestizo district, Ilocos Sur

What you see today is the thing of the past, and what you experience at present will just be a story in the future...

Ilocos Sur is surrounded by Ilocos Norte, La Union, Abra, Benguet and South China Sea. If there is one province that can tell you what the Philippines went through during Spanish colonization, go to Ilocos Sur. Just walk around Calle Crisologo and the place will take you back to its rich and undying history.

How to get to Ilocos Sur

Getting in to Ilocos Sur is easy. There are a number of bus companies that will take you directly to the provincial capital, Vigan. Partas, FariƱas, Florida bus lines, etc has direct trip to Vigan. From Vigan, you can either hail a tricycle to get to your destination of choice, or get in to a calesa for a considerable amount. Your choice.

Hidden garden, Vigan

Probably one of the few restaurants that I have visited that puts very serious effort in taking care of mother nature. Sure, some restaurants have the same theme: garden. But this one feels like I was eating somewhere out of the Philippines.

Here you can see Buddhas, and other religious artifacts, coins (foreign and local) surrounded every single buddhas. I also had some of my coins thrown in its man made well and, just like other visitors, uttered my wish.

Where the hell is this garden located? I myself who have been there may not be able to go back unless i have my waze (app) with me.

Here's their address:

Baluarte

Just few minutes from the famous Calle Crisologo lies an 80-ish hectare land that features  animals that can be found in the wild. Yes, wild. Animals like lion, tiger, zebra, snakes are found in here as well as the ones that can be found in our backyard; ducks, goats, birds, etc.

Notable political figure and former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson owns this zoo and guess what? entrance is FREE. This makes me wonder where the funds to sustain the cleanliness of the zoo coming from? donations, i guess.

I was kind of lazy to roam around the entire zoo because of the scorching heat of the sun... I guess this shouldn't be part after-lunch itinerary. I should have visited here first thing in the morning before heading to Ilocos Norte.
