South Cebu's best: Kawasan Falls and Osmeña Peak

Osmeña Peak

Last week (late July 2016) we went to Cebu and Negros Oriental to give ourselves a break from months of working tediously. This trip has long been planned by friends who, like this writer, loves Cebu very much that we managed to go back to this lovely island province twice within the last 7 months. The last time, we had a chance to see Tumalog falls, swim with the whales in Oslob, canyoneering in Alegria, all in South Cebu and then an overnight stay in another beautiful island province of Bohol.

Our trip to South Cebu and Negros Oriental consists of action packed activities like hiking Cebu's highest point, the famous Osmena peak, be mesmerized by the breath-taking Kawasan Falls, attended a Cebu-based friend's wedding in Cebu City, side trip to Negros Oriental's Casaroro falls in Valencia, Manjuyod white sand bar in Bais City, and day tour in Dumaguete City. I will have a separate blog about our trip to Negros Oriental which (i hope) can be published any time this August 2016.

Upon arrival  at the airport, we took a cab and asked the driver to take us to STK ta Bay sa Paolito's seafood house near Cebu capitol.

Congrats George and best wishes to Mitch! May our Lord bless you as you guys take the road to forever! love! love! love! <3

Getting in to South Cebu

After attending a friend's wedding in Cebu City, we prepared ourselves for yet another butt-numbing bus ride to South Cebu to see the beauty of Kawasan Falls.

How to get to Kawasan Falls

South Cebu is a haven for all-things awesome! Kawasan falls is definitely one place you shouldn't miss when you visit that part of Cebu. The falls is 1km away from the main road in Matutinao, Badian, Cebu.

If you are coming from South terminal, you can hop in at any of the major bus companies inside the terminal that will take you to Badian where the falls is situated. Ceres Bus, Rough Riders Bus and Librando Bus (the latter) has its own terminal located across the South Terminal. We took Ceres Bus bound for BATO via BARILI which can take you at the exact jump off point to Kawasan Falls. Entrance fee is i think 30php (more or less) Take note: do not take the bus bound for BATO via OSLOB since bus takes the eastern route while Badian is on the western side. Fare is more or less 120php, and travel takes 3 hours maximum (well, it still depends on the bus driver though). I was planning to sleep during the trip but for some reason, my eyes wants to invade the beauty of the mountains and other scenic spots from where i was seated. Getting a guide to the falls is not required.

Osmeña Peak

Another God's majestic creation is the Osmeña peak, proudly located in Dalaguete, still in South Cebu. Dubbed as the Baguio of the south because of being a vegetable capital of the province, Osmena peak will surely leave you breathless because of its innate beauty and calm scenery.

How to get to Osmeña peak

Dalaguete is 3 hours away from Cebu City, an hour probably from Oslob. Ask the bus driver/conductor to drop you off at the junction, ride a habal habal for 200 pesos, in our case, we hired a pick up truck for 150 pesos round trip. There were 5 of us in this trip.

On your way to the peak, you will see vegetables being planted, mostly cabbage.

trust me, I was not aware of this. hahaha

I'd like to thank my super friends in this journey: Lawrence (right), Jesly (center), Pai (behind jesly), Bangs (in front of this author) for sharing these photos with me. Until our next trip guys! :)
